BRIDGEPORT, Conn. --A man accused of slashing his wife then telling his toddler son to "stab Mommy," has pleaded guilty to assault and other charges.

Fermin Rodriguez, 21, pleaded guilty Monday before Superior Court Judge Richard Comerford to charges stemming from an attack on his wife on March 4.

Police say that Rodriguez and his 17-year-old wife, Keyschla Rodriguez, began arguing in their home when he accused her of being unfaithful.

As the fight escalated, Fermin Rodriguez picked up a kitchen knife and began slashing and stabbing his wife, police said.

As the woman lay on the floor bleeding from her wounds, police said, Rodriguez handed the knife to his 2-year-old son telling him, "Now you stab Mommy."

The boy did not comply and Keyschla Rodriguez was taken to the hospital by her father.
Rodriguez pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree assault, second-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor.

Senior Assistant State's Attorney Cornelius Kelly said he will recommend Rodriguez serve a 12-year prison term when he is sentenced Oct. 26.
